I think that Zuko has to be my favourite - love a good redemption arc, though at the same time.....as short as the character was there - Commander Zhao/Admiral Zhao was another antagonist I felt like could have had an interesting arc.
Appa.
Flying sky bison.
C'mon - am I the only one?
"I know you're not supposed to cry over spilled tea, but it’s just so sad!" - Uncle Iroh
"This tea is nothing more than hot leaf juice..." "Uncle, that's what all tea is." "How could a member of my own family say something so horrible?!" - Uncle Iroh and Zuko
Zuko and Iroh are incredibly tied in this one - mostly because of their bond to each other. I loved watching Zuko grow into someone worthy of leading, and I loved the subtle ways that Iroh helped to guide him there.
I really like Aang. I enjoyed watching him try to cope with all of the pressure put on him and still be a little boy. We watched him grow up, and sometimes be wise and sometimes be silly. At the end of the series he felt more mature, I think that's an impressive thing to pull off with an animated series.
Sokka. I like comic relief, I guess. Haha! But I also really liked that he was the "useless" one of the group at first but came into his own as the series moved forward.
"People we've loved, people we've lost.. but they're not; we're still connected to them. Time is an illusion, and so is death.”
”My cabbages!”
”Goodbye, cool space sword.”
Zuko is hands down my favorite character. His character arc was absolutely amazing and the way he grew from episode one to the series finale was just... amazing. He was amazing, and it was one of the (many) things that the writers did *very* well. Watching him grow and change was fascinating.
who's your favorite show character and why?
tbh, i think mine's iroh, because he's the sort of person ive always kinda tried to be and failed at being rly miserably bc my temper still hasnt quite died all the way oops
though zuko is a close second bc of how intriguing and well-thought-out and executed his personal story and growth arc was.
"Zuko, you have to look within yourself, to save yourself from your other self. Only then will your true self reveal itself." Even when I'm talking for him, I can't figure out what he means.
(Can we please appreciate Zu-dork-ko, the most adorable creature ever. Because honestly, his entire spiel in The Western Air Temple was freakin adorbs and he is so awkward and cute and ah I just want to hug him.)
I will never forget "It's the quenchiest!"
Or "I am a 400 foot tall purple Platypus Bear with pink horns and silver wings."
Yume's all like deep and meaningful and I'm like this made me ugly laugh.
Nice and easy topic to start off with. What are some of your favorite quotes from ATLA?
Some of mine are:
"In the darkest times, hope is something you give yourself. That is the meaning of inner strength." Iroh
"You think you're the first person to believe their war was justified?" - Wan Shi Tong, Spirit from the Library.
"Pride is not the opposite of shame, but it's source" ... Iroh.
... I have many others! But share some of your favorites here!
