This is the password strength metre in Alpha 5. On registration and when changing passwords, there will be a colour-coded metre under the password field that gives immediate feedback on how strong or weak a password is. It DOES calculate based on password variety, rather than just length. I can get a 15 character password straight to the end, but the green password here was all numbers.
