Put Your NaNoWriMo Writing Hat On!

    2019 National Novel Writing Month: 11/1 - 11/30

Madam Morrigan stepped to the lectern. Silence fell in the great hall as she began speaking, "Welcome to this year's NaNoWriMo contest. Before we begin, the RPG Initiative Staff has asked me to say a few words. Write. Write. Tweak. Submit. I now turn the lectern over to Ms. Stormwolfe, our elderly Mysteries of the Newsletter Staff member."

sortinghat.png"Thank you, Morrigan and thank you, @Arceus and @Yume for this fun contest!" Stormwolfe uttered nervously and dramatically, "Ahem...RPG Initiative's NaNoWriMo Sorting Hat will now mystically and magically float to each participant. Pick up the wand, tap the hat's brim three times, and your house will appear! I now turn the lectern over to our Mysterious Voice from Beyond to give you the details," Stormwolfe said before tottering off the stage.

For this year's National Novel Writing Month event, the Initiative has come up with three NaNoWriMo Houses. Participants will be randomly sorted into a House. Once you have been 'sorted' into a House, you will be able to post your personal daily word count numbers. The numbers will be added to your House's total cumulative points.  The more you and your fellow House members participate and write, the higher your House's overall score will be. At the end of November, the House with the highest word count will win the RPG Initiative NaNoWriMo House Cup!

To participate, please join our NaNoWriMo Coterie...

National Novel Writing Month (often shortened to NaNoWriMo) is an annual, Internet-based creative writing project that takes place during November. Participants attempt to write a 50,000-word manuscript between November 1 and November 30. Well-known authors write "pep-talks" to keep them motivated throughout the process. The website provides participants, called "Wrimos" with tips for writer's block, information on where local participants are meeting, and an online community of support. The event focuses on the length of a work rather than the quality. Writers are encouraged to finish their first draft quickly so that it can later be edited at the author's discretion.

Writers that wish to participate, first register on the project's website, where they can post profiles and information about their novels, including synopses and excerpts. Word counts are validated on the site, with writers submitting a copy of their novel for automatic counting. Municipal leaders and regional forums help connect local writers, holding writing events, and providing encouragement.
