  1. I just really want to talk about comics so I'm making a topic. So, typically speaking, I'm a Marvel Comics gal. They're what I grew up reading, so they're where I have the most favorites. I decided to narrow the topic to superheroes, their villains, and other characters relating to those types of stories. Because there are just SO MANY comics these days, y'know. DC Characters that I love, breaking the Marvel gal mold: John Constantine. I love antivillains. They're great. And yeah, that's definitely what I classify him as just because of the things he'll do and the fact that he tends to be so self-serving. But I love him. Blue Beetle (Jaime Reyes). Pre-New-52 is what I'm familiar with here, as the New 52 took away the best things about him. I love him, though, and how well they used his cultural past. My Marvel faves: Tony Stark/Iron Man. I just love him and all his issues. Pre-Kieron Gillen's futz-up with his book. Clint Barton/Hawkeye. My precious little walking trainwreck. Elizabeth Braddock/Psylocke. X-Men was my entry into comics, and my love for Betsy is eternal. Stephen Strange/Doctor Strange. Don't. Talk. To. Me. About. This. Movie. I mean, what movie? There's no movie happening! The dumb magician is amazing. The Cloak of Levitation. It's a sentient cloak that behaves like a cat! Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel. She was a badass even before she got powers! Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom. SO OVERDRAMATIC, THIS DOOM. Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman. Before they took away a bunch of major character traits to get her pregnant in her own comic. She canonly hates and doesn't want kids. What were you thinking?! Kamala Khan/Ms Marvel. She might be new, but she's stolen my heart. Gwen Stacy/Spider-Gwen. I LOVE this reinvention of her character, but I've loved most interpretations of her. She's a girl who knows what she wants. Guiletta Nefaria/Madame Masque. Probably my favorite villain, and definitely part of my all-time OTP, IronMasque. Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch. Wanda is just the best. Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver. Love my jackass speedster. Balder Odinson. THIS LITTLE RAY OF IDIOTIC SUNSHINE. Nick Fury. And like. The classic Nick Fury. The one from 616, who is a magnificent dickbag. Ults!Fury always bothered me a bit, though I do like MCU Fury more because he has more 616 Fury elements. And those are my faves! What are your faves? Why? Do you care to fangirl/fanboy with me?
  2. I am currently reading the third book in the green rider series "The high king's tomb" by Kristen Britain My current favorite series is the throne of glass series by Sarah J Maas
  3. What is your favourite TV show at this very moment in time and tell us why or a describe a bit about it right here! Mine is The Walking Dead because my husband decided to binge watch it just before Season 6 returned and got me hooked. It's the one show I've managed to watch each week diligently since then.
  4. What are your favorite Netflix Originals shows? I looooooove House of Cards and Stranger Things! Orange Is the New Black and The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt are also wondifferous.
  5. Comment on this thread with your favorite video games of all time and why if you'd like to share! Some of mine (Kocobo is the current admin on this account) are the Uncharted series, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Final Fantasy, the new Spider-Man, Kingdom Hearts, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, and sooooo many more lol
  6. Specifically the video. Not necessarily your favorite song. What video do you enjoy for any reason at all? Genghis Khan by Miike Snow is one of my favorites. It's FUN and such a cool concept. I think it'd be neat to do an RP based on.
  7. What are you looking forward to? Can be anything at all. I'm looking forward to: The end of the semester on December 20th. Rogue One (I love Ben Mendelsohn <3) Star Wars: Episode VIII (Gimme more Hux & Kylo pls) Mass Effect Andromeda How about you guys?
  8. Sorry if this thread already exists! I do not know how to search for threads here... Anyway! • Do you play FFXIV? (Or are you planning/considering to play FFXIV?) • What server do you play on? :3 • What are your favourite things about FFXIV? • Show your character's on lodestone, too, if you want! I currenly play on Cactuar in the NA servers, but I originally hail from Jenova. I first started playing the day FFXIV:ARR came out in Amurrica. I have to say that my favourite part - once upon a time - was exploring the world for the first time. It was just so beautiful and magical that I could happily get lost in it (while looking at their amazing night sky). XD Now, I enjoy the masochistic grind for tomes with my buddies. Other than that, I've really come to like the story in HW and SB.
  9. Alright, so for those of you that know me, I absolutely love to sing. Whether it's singing awkwardly to people on the subway, serenading people at stoplights, singing while I'm gaming before a stream of expletives works its way in as I fight off hordes of NPCs, or breaking out into song at work because a song popped into my head while my colleagues were talking, you can bet I'm doing something musical 99.9% of the time. So what's that gotta do with you guys? I'm glad you didn't ask! >.> I'm kind of obsessed with a karaoke app that lets you sing with people all over the world. It's a far easier set up than what I used to do with people here on my site where we had to record things separately and then I had to splice it all together myself with ProTools or Audacity, or whatever program I had at the time. This one does it for ya! The app is free (though I've paid to have the VIP status and all songs unlocked), so we have our pick of nearly any song. If it's not up, I can upload it and BOOM! we're in business! I'm hoping that I can get some other fanatics to sing with me from here because it'd be crazy wonderful and epic! Purely for the shenanigans. Anybody else willing to join me on my quest for the best of the cheesiest duets available on the interweb?
  10. I have dipped into it from time to time, mainly regarding the Thor films, Spider-Man and the X-Men ones. I know the ones containing the Avengers do cross over with each other, (including the Thor ones), but I've not really watched them. As I am going to see the new Spider-Man one soon, I was wondering which of the films I need to watch if I want the cross-overs to make sense, and in which order to watch them in.
  11. So, I've totally been rebinging DS9 because DS9 is best Trek (This is known). Captain Sisko is best captain (fight me!), the rest of the crew are amazing, the regular guest characters are amazing, and well, the stories are so fantastic. Just rewarched Looking for par'Mach in All the Wrong Places and I forgot how much I'd loved that episode for so many reasons. Particularly how Dax just went along with all the craziness through the whole episode with a lot of bemusement as both Worf and Quark made utter fools of themselves. That, and well, the beginning of the most epic of relationships in Trek ever. <3
  12. So, I had inspiration today. I felt that Blue Öyster Cult's Veteran of the Psychic Wars needed to be filked up for our Poke wars. First, here's the song for those of you unfamiliar: And here are my revised lyrics: You see me now, a veteran of a thousand poke wars I've been living in the browser so long Where the code of limbo roar And I'm young enough to look at And far too old to see All the scars are on the inside I'm not sure if there's anything left of me Don't let these pokes go on It's time we had a break from it It's time we had some leave We've been living in the threads We've been eating up our brains Oh, please, don't let these pokes go on You ask me why I'm weary Why I can't PM with you You blame me for my silence Say it's time I changed and grew But the war's still going on, dear And there's no end that I know And I can't say I'm forever I can't say if we're ever gonna be free Don't let these pokes go on It's time we had a break from it It's time we had some leave We've been living in the threads We've been eating up our brains Oh, please, don't let these pokes go on You see me now a veteran Of a thousand poke wars My energy's spent at last And my mouse is destroyed I have used up all my weapons And I'm helpless and bereaved Wounds are all I'm made of Did I hear you say that this is victory? Don't let these pokes go on It's time we had a break from it Send me to the rear Where the tides of madness swell And been sliding into Hell Oh, please, don't let these pokes go on Don't let these pokes go on Don't let these pokes go on
  13. So Netflix has released their Castlevania series... Who's seen it? What did you think? For those who haven't heard of it... Castlevania is a long running franchise of games by Konami (well, before they decided pachinko machines were more profitable). It focuses on the Belmont family as they try to kill Dracula in his home. It features numerous amazing soundtracks: Here is a trailer for the Netflix series:
  14. Last year I started playing with some folks on my site, doing a 5e campaign on roll20 - The Lost Mine of Phandelver. We've since done a Drow only game, Storm King's Thunder, goblin only, and I am starting Vampire the Masquerade next week and another 5e this when SKT is done. I really love playing via Skype, and I love the interactions, not the leveling up (though that is fun when you get cool upgrades or spells!). Rolling for wisdom and failing and ending up married to a barbarian chieftain's daughter was hilarious! As was trying to seduce a dragon with my drow! Incidentally, another player joined our campaign and is playing the wife my bard ended up married to. It's so awesome! So anyone else play face to face or via things like roll20? Give me your stories?! lol
  15. 13 Reasons Why is a book-turned-show that recently was released on Netflix. While I've never read the book, I did watch the TV program and I'd like to talk about the story and the impacts on its audience. As one might suspect, this post will include spoilers. For those who aren't familiar with it, 13 Reasons Why explores the months leading up to the suicide of a teenage girl through audio cassette tapes she recorded and left behind after she killed herself. The girl, Hannah, recorded a tape dedicated for every "friend" who ever hurt or betrayed her in some way. These tapes are passed around to the various people who are featured on the tapes, and the show is shown through the eyes of her friend, Clay. During the year leading up to her suicide, Hannah experienced everything from moderate bullying to sexual harassment to betrayal to rape. So, obviously, this thread will include these sorts of topics - warning for those who are not keen to discuss them. The point of the program, from what I understood, was to show the impact that bullying has on someone. The behavior of her classmates towards her (and not just one or two classmates; we're talking almost a dozen) wore her down and broke her spirit. Combined with stress factors at home--in particular, watching her parents struggle financially--she finally fell into depression and sliced her wrists. In my opinion, however, the story went wrong in two places: 1) The fact that she left the tapes behind for each person to listen to made it sound like a revenge suicide to get back at those who had hurt her. 2) The TV show format took each of the cassettes and stretched it out for an hour, which ultimately did the story a disservice because it emphasized point #1. In the TV show, it takes Clay many, many days to get through the cassette tapes because they give him such bad anxiety. So for filler, they show the interaction of the kids at school, the bullying that takes place, and the other characters forming a clique to take out Clay because they believe he's going to go to the authorities and tell them about the contents of the tape. This gave Netflix more content to work with, of course, but watching the way that the characters writhed and lived in torment over these tapes made it seem like Hannah wanted them all to suffer. Thus, it seemed like the story lost the effect of "When many people hurt someone, it destroys them" into "I'm going to make you all suffer through my suicide." Unfortunately, based upon the Netflix comments, it appears that other people took the show to mean this. Some worry (and perhaps rightfully so) that other kids will be inspired by this and blame others for their own suicides. This, perhaps, is the main reason that I disliked the show: Suicide, no matter how tragic, is decided by the person who commits it. You cannot shift the blame to others and say, "You killed me" if you're the one who is making the decision to deal the final blow. It upset me to see how Clay was piling it on himself that he "killed Hannah" and no one really corrected him. Yes, sometimes people mentioned it, but the emphasis was clearly on the fact that all of these people who received the tapes in one way or another "Killed Hannah Baker." In reality, Hannah killed herself. That said, I didn't dislike the show in its entirety. It was a fascinating piece, and I really enjoyed watching it for the most part. Many of the characters had their own struggles and didn't know how to handle it. Some had support; others didn't. One thing I wish it addressed more thoroughly was the depression aspect. They captured the fact (towards the end) that Hannah was "empty" which is a sign of depression, but unfortunately to many people who aren't familiar with how depression affects people, it wasn't enough to make them understand why she made the decision that she did. (Again, I think it comes back to the story coming across as appearing as a revenge suicide.) But depression is something that many teenagers have to face, and to explore that in more detail would have been beneficial not just to the story itself but also to the people watching it. Another thing I liked about the show is that it gets people talking. I'm an adult, but I came across some other adults who were watching the show, and it got us into a conversation about it. Raising awareness of bullying, depression, and suicide is extremely important, especially when we're in a world where people don't always have to take responsibility for their actions, bullying is ignored (and sometimes even encouraged), and nobody wants to talk about mental health. I'm grateful that I watched the show for this reason, and I hope others watch it and see that sometimes even stupid, little things can affect the way people live their lives. Your thoughts?
  16. 331Erock is a youtuber who takes songs and makes them Metal. He's got a variety of good ones on his channel, here's a sample of just a few: And one more because I can... Which ones are your favourites? Any you'd love to see his take on?
  17. It has been a while since I read any new authors, mainly because while at Uni, I came across quite a few I didn't like, and got a bit tired of reading anything other than books for my course. After uni, my partner became ill and a lot of things changed for the worse. The independent bookshop in the town where I live now closed quite a while ago and I don't bother going into our local Waterstones because it is small and they only ever seem to promote YA/Teenage books which are being made into films/TV shows, something which I'm not that interested in. There is a science fiction bookshop in the city which I can get to, if I feel like going there and they get a lot of stuff from America and Canada, so I was wondering if there was anything new which I'd find interesting. In science fiction, I like to read stuff like Timothy Zahn's Quad Rail and Icarus Hunt books. I do sometimes delve into Urban Fantasy/Supernatural genres, but I prefer books which are more focused on mythology and adventure, such as the Dresden Files than the romance stuff, so I was wondering if there were any authors like that around? I like Carrie Vaughn, Patricia Briggs and Kelley Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld books (I don't like her more recent books, however, as she seems to have moved away from werewolves and supernatural stuff and moved on to more mainstream thriller type stuff.) I'd prefer male authors in UF/Supernatural genres as they seem to do more with it than focus on romance though if there's any female authors who are more like Patricia Briggs and Carrie Vaughn, I'd be happy to read those. In terms of high fantasy, I like authors like James Barclay, Terry Brooks, and Naomi Novik.
  18. First off, I have never cared for a new/old fandom where few fans can say more than 'watch it for celebrity x! / watch it, it's good!' and so forth. I love High Fantasy as much as the next fan, but I'm not 10 years old. I won't watch anything just because 'DRAGONS'. I care about consistent plots, believable magic/physics/warfare/etc (no 'a wizard did it, yay magic!112', no 'this is make-believe so deal with it'). No abandoned storylines and repeated scenarios ad nauseam, ala the same old event redone over and over; like how some later The walking Dead eps have the exact same formula- the group finds a new town, oh noes it's corrupted, someone dies; rinse repeat. For GoT, I also don't like the controversial/wtf attitudes back when the writer claimed 'it's not sexual assault if you enjoy it'. I need actual substance in a claim as to why GoT is worth watching; I watch films and series a fuckton, I literally doze off (w00t, chronic fatigue) f I'm forced to watch things like b-grade movies and 'just to give something a go, though the story is not for me / just for something to do'. like romcoms, cop shows, college/student life movies, disney's Frozen. My big sister doesn't take no for an answer, sad to say. She's been hounding me, but it's my bloody choice to watch things. I know a few spoilers about got, but it hasn't really connected. I've got no spare time to start reading a book series, so I'd rather stick to the tv version for now. How much of got is split into action/adventure, suspense, court intrigue/politics, drama, epic quests? Is the ratio similar to The original Lord of the Rings trilogy? More outdoorsy adventures? less? Equal? T enjoyed the first 3 seasons of Downton Abbey, as far as family infighting and whatnot goes TWD for the initial outbreak and suspense, survival stories; Black Sails for its realism and characters; NBC Hannibal for its unique take and characters; Lost s1 and 2.5 (haven't finished it) for it's survivalism and the fucked-up island!
  19. Now, I know that there is a thread on here for gaming tags specifically, but I wanted to know if there were any members on here that actively play "DESTINY" on the PS4! I've been on a roll with this and, most of what I have left is better done with fireteams of friends instead of allowing randoms to either make or break a mission for exotics and whatnot. And, if I'm honest, playing with friends is far more amusing to me than not...which is why I get bored on games like Fall Out and such. So! Anyone who has the game that'd be willing to play with me? Or anyone who's considering getting the game who'd like some help getting through it? Lemme know!
  20. So the show has been renewed for season 4 now and there are some changes coming... Ghostrider is coming to the show. Though it's not the original motorcycle riding version. (It's the newer version, Robbie Reyes, being played by Gabriel Luna.) They also showed off his sweet ride.... Thoughts on the upcoming changes? What did you think of season 3?
  21. So 32 years ago Dan Akroyd and Harold Ramis (RIP) created Ghostbusters. The movie exploded in popularity resulting in a sequel movie, two cartoons, numerous comic books and a few videogames. But, as Hollywood seems to be prone to doing lately, time has come for a reboot! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IDXpOX0Cp0 Oh, no wait.... wrong link. Sorry, here's the actual trailer they showed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3ugHP-yZXw Followed soon after by this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Egs6RfGenvg Thoughts so far now that we've actually had a (brief) look?
  22. Everyone has a favorite movie or TV show. If you are like me, you have about ten thousand favorites. But some are just universally awesome, and everyone needs to watch them. What movies/tv shows do you think everyone needs to see? I'd say Doctor Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. If you like Neil Patrick Harris, you'll love this quirky film about a super villain who's in love, a cocky superhero, and a great story. Also, there's a little treat for lovers of Big Bang Theory, Firefly, and/or The Guild (all three of which are awesome shows, and I know I'm focusing on Doctor Horrible, but you need to check them out too). Seriously, check it out, it's pretty short. What about you guys?
