Popular Post Arceus 1,081 Popular Post Share Posted February 7, 2019 Updated March 7, 2019. Italic features are working as of Alpha 6. The rest are planned. Admin Side jQuery and Bootstrap support. Set a custom starting page; this page is the first one users see when they type in your base URL. Set default timezone, flip month/day order, turn on short month names, 24-hour clock, and uppercase the antemeridian and postmeridian markers if you'd prefer. Administrator panel notes, so you can pass notes easily between your admin staff. Create, manage, and remove site announcement and news items. These items show up on their own news page, and send out news alerts to all members when posted. Create, manage, rearrange, and remove main menu buttons. Install themes, and manage theme settings. Create, manage, and remove custom site pages. Site pages can also be linked to a biography field to create ACM2's auto-lists. Easily customise the site's splash landing page, rules page, and credits page contents. Enable avatars, guest browsing, user titles, signatures, language changing, quote fields, and theme selection. Avatar size can be set in admin panel, as well as a secondary image. Use this one for non-square images if you have need of them. Easily add new affiliates, allow guests to apply for affiliation, and easily rehost affiliate button images if you'd prefer to do so. Easily create, manage, and remove blocks. Blocks can be set to display on a single page, or multiple pages. (Note you can't just "forums" at it and it'll display the block across all forums; only on the forum index, you'll need to use "board" and "topic" too, and that's all boards and all topics, not just a specific one). Easy install of new language packs as they become available. All the features from ACM2, +: Ability to set rotating avatars or side images. Character image galleries. Enable users to freely change between groups, or set it so they apply for the group they want when they app the character. Allow your non-staff users to post with any NPC, not just their own, if you want that functionality. Character pending and approval alerts. On character denial, Gaia will present a text box for the denial message, and create a direct message to the user from it. No extra steps. Decide whether you want your biography sections to behave as tabs or as section headers. Both a character ranks list, which orders by alliance->department->rank, and an automatic who plays who; whichever one you need, both are built-in. Create, upload images for, manage, and remove post reactions. If you just need a like, only create a like. Create and manage new fields for new topics being posted. These can be set to be active only in certain forums, and on a new topic, the user will be able to fill such fields in. They display automatically in topic header, but are also loaded in the topics index of boards if you'd like to display them there, too. Create and order custom months and years. The Gaia system will use these to order threads by date in an automatic chronological in-character time-line. (If you just want standard real-world months and years, just start dating threads, it defaults to the real-world calendar.) Enable power user or owner permissions per-group. Enable editing HTML source in posts per-group. This does also strip certain potentially dangerous HTML tags out before posting. Technically you can tell it what to keep, but I don't think anyone will find they need something not already kept to be so. Easily post a message as another user. Enable boards to be denoted as shipper boards. New topics posted in such boards will present shipper fields, in addition to regular post body, and will arrange into the denoted shipper template automatically. Access to bio fields and user info fields in shipper templates, too. Enable boards to be denoted as joint-post forums. This allows non-staff users to edit others' posts, so that players can collaborate on the same post. Themes support CSS variants. Fonts can also be set per-theme, as can mobile tab colour. System comes with a manifest.json. If you know what you're doing with it, you can edit and tailor it to your site's needs. Theme system will eventually be easy-edit. At the moment, they're structured much like SMF's just with less dumb, so hey, maybe they'll be easier to edit anyway because I don't code like a 2000s reject that forgot to take the Adderall this morning. You can still set colours and theme images in the edit theme section, if you'd prefer to use easy mode, but it won't let you change layout as of now, and that's unlikely to change before Gaia 1.0. Send your users custom alert notifications from the admin panel. Forum categories can handle descriptions. Not sure why. Yolo I guess. Customise the icon used to denote new posts and where it goes easily. Essentially, nothing in Gaia requires a specific HTML structure. You can rearrange whatever you want, as long as the IDs of things that have them are retained, nothing will break. Customise if your CM displays middle names, middle initials, and whether or not they format LIKE THIS, Like This, or like this. I make no promises, but I may be able to add a built-in shout-box feature, with the ability to add more than one shout-box, easily alter the shout templates, and enable or disable the sound per-user. There is a privacy page built-in that talks about what information Gaia collects, what it uses what it collects for, and the cookies it sets and what they're for. You cannot directly change this page very easily, and it should make you GDPR-compliant as-is, so I'd really just leave it alone. Yanno after you read it to make sure you're aware of what it says and what responsibilities it ties you to. User Side Mobile-responsive, and accessible to screen readers, out of the box. Once a user has started editing a post, JP-enabled or not, there will be an edit lock on it to prevent others from editing the post at the same time. Enable or disable public birth date display. If one chooses to hide it, the system will not display it to anyone except to the user in their profile management screen. Upload cover photos for profile. User alert system for new messages, and new notifications. Notifications can be gotten from the character system, topics, or thread tags. Easily set Gaia to subscribe to topics posted or replied to automatically. Manage characters through the character management system; never switch accounts again. Set a secret question and answer for password resetting. Opt into, or not, seeing mature content threads. The mature content system is included automatically on Gaia. Topics can be marked mature, and only a user with a valid birth date, that puts them over 18, and has mature content enabled, will ever see a mature topic. Fill out the about me field however you like. Customise user title, quote, and signature, if the site has all three enabled. Easily see when another user has mature content on; no more awkward questions. Easy WYSIWYG, HTML-based text editor for text-area fields across the system. Leave direct message conversations easily. Add new users to direct message conversations easily. Conversations do not delete until the last user in it leaves it. This enables users that need the reference to hang onto their message receipts without forcing other users to do the same. Basically, there's only one way to read direct messages you're not a part of, and I'm not telling what it is. Also it's a mess to wade through c: Guest users can edit their own posts within a certain time-frame of posting it. New topic, new post, and direct message draft support. I may also be able to get it saving text-area information on characters. Word counts show when typing in a text-area, as well as after posting in threads. Truly dark, and truly light, default theme variants. Subscribe to: new members; new characters; new posts; new topics; new topics with a specific tag; new announcements; or everything; with RSS. Set yourself to away/on leave when life gets tough. Other users can see that you're away and when you'll be back if you set that. Follow a thread tag to be alerted to when new topics are posted with that tag attached to it. Use this to create character or user tags and skirt around the fact Gaia doesn't have @ mentions. Hard No's These features were considered, and thrown out. Don't bother asking for them, it won't happen. Status anythings. No status updates or posting on each other's profiles or whatever. No email anythings. We live in 2019, we don't need them, and I'm gonna level with you, I'm lazy and can't easily test it anyway (my two servers' IP address cannot send emails, they get outright rejected not just go to spam). Purposeful, specifically-for-Discord integrations. See lazy. Also I don't have the patience to learn Discord's syntax, so if RSS feeds don't work, well, I'm sorry, I tried. Edit histories. That's a lot of data overhead after a while, and just no. Not bothering to try doing it a non-overhead-y way. Anything designed to enhance the social aspects or link social media to it. Gaia is not a social system. I'm not doing social media share things, or anything that tries to mimic Facebook and Twitter. Aside from character galleries, no regular galleries, and here's why, Gaia is not a social system. Anything related to making it easier to post gifs. I'm sorry, but I can't in good conscience make it easier on you to plaster your site in things that slug up page load times and can be deadly to people with epilepsy. One of Gaia's core goals is accessible to everyone, and some gifs can legitimately be life-threatening, I'm not making that up. Smileys. Similar reasons as above. Also some lazy. Current Planned Converters These are softwares or platforms that I know for sure I will be creating a converter from to Gaia shortly after or before it releases. Jcink. SMF. (With SubAccounts; with ACM2; with Bookmarks, bookmarks will turn into character tracker entries for character subaccounts and into topic subscriptions for parent accounts.) Quick note on the converters; due to the varying differences in how software stores its user passwords and encrypts them, most likely, your users will have randomised passwords set and printed to the admin, or whomever does the conversion. I can try and make Gaia's converters email them to the user via the email address on the original account but I make absolutely no promises and if your users have used a throwaway email address they may never get it, so it's probably better if you just send them their new password yourself, and advise they change it immediately after logging in and set their recovery question. Planned Features for Future Versions These are features or functions that I am considering, or planning on, for a future version of Gaia, rather than on-release. The Battle Suite. This is the neat-o automated battler that allows an easy-to-maintain and use combat system. No, really, it's basically all automated. [@] Mention fancy search as you type. I gotta figure out how to. Award system. I know how, there's just so much other stuff to do I really can't care for version 1. Easy-pants theme system with no commas or apostrophes. I promise, I am still trying to figure out how to do this, but honestly it is being a major pain in the behind and I've got other stuff to do. Drag and drop blocks where you want them on the front-end, move 'em around, junk like that. I also want to figure out how to do drag and drop layout editing, with any luck the "easy" mode for Gaia's theme system will be pick up a fockin' thing and move it, there you go. PM auto-responders. Denote a board should only display topics that the viewing user has either: Created, or replied to; Been [@] mentioned in; These may change, more may be added later as time goes on. You know the drill. 3 2 1 I am the darkness, always watching, always listening, ALWAYS THERE. (If you're interested in Plain of Ice, message me, it's private. Bleach site, non-canon.) Arceus 1,081 Author Share Posted March 6, 2019 By the way, since I'm amid Alpha 7's rewrite (literally rewriting it from scratch), now is the best time to do feature requests because I'm starting over from nothing. Okay. Catch me now. Even if it seems stupid/unattainable/too hairbrained/specific/whatever, look I can't tell you how many people told me I couldn't make the Battle Suite and I did it, so seriously. I might be able to do it, and I'm already restructuring everything so you may as well. Lol 1 I am the darkness, always watching, always listening, ALWAYS THERE.
