Pulp Adventure/Sci-Fi Society

What's this? Isn't Veino already working on a board? Well, yes, technically I'm working on two. You know what they say though, third time's the charm!

So, I have a big love of old pulp adventure/sci-fi stories, like Edgar Rice Burrough's works, some of Arthur Conan Doyle's stories, and characters like Doc Savage, The Shadow, G-8 and his flying aces, and later ones inspired by them like Indiana Jones, Athena Voltaire, and everyone in the Mummy. The interwar era has such a huge amount of events that provide a great framework for adventure/sci-fi/paranormal stories. It just needs the right kind of framing.

So, here's the concept:

In the latter half of the 19th century, a small coalition of British and American explorers, inventors, and forward thinkers came together and established a club, or society, for those dedicated to learning more about the mysteries of the broader world and incidents that could not be easily explained by conventional understandings of the world. For a while, the society remained the grounds of eccentrics, amateurs, dilettantes,  and generally a social group with in an interest in the unexplained.

Until, that this, the outbreak of the Great War, when for reasons unknown, weird forces emerged in higher numbers than before, reported all across the globe by governments eager to turn anything into a weapon to break the stalemate of the Western Front. Members of the society now found themselves and their esoteric knowledge, be it highly theoretical science, knowledge of ancient mysticism, theorized locations of ancient civilizations, prototypes of new kinds of machines, anything. Drafted into service, members of the society traveled the world on secret missions. Most of the members were killed in action. Only a few of the oldest remained and watched as their society was whittled down to nearly nothing.

Then the war ended and the world had changed. The survivors in the Society were determined to make sure nothing like it happened again and the society was reborn. It still retained its focus on the unexplained and unknown, but now it was melded with a belief in exploring, learning, and studying to make a better world for the future. Inventors, idealists, philosophers, and others were brought in, as well as explorers, aviators, and others whose lives were forged in the fires of the Great War. The society  begins to take a far more active role in its research, attempting to put an end to evil-doers before they unleash their new monstrosities on the world. Not officially sanctioned by any government, not overly public with its work, the society works mostly in secret, uncovering things hidden in the most unknown portions of the globe.

That's a rough initial summary at least, of the overarching framework. Still need to work out all the details. I think it would probably take place in the mid-1920s to early 1930s. Not entirely sure yet. Deal a lot with secret societies, conspiracy theories, and pseudoscience-that-turns-out-to-be-real phenomena like there is an actual Hollow Earth. Characters I think would probably make the most sense belonging to the society or its rivals.

Hosting site is still up in the air and not super important. Rating would probably be 212. Very brief and simple application process. History would mostly be the same, just weirder. Thoughts? Questions? Ideas?
