What popular things do you hate?

Some more, because NO REGRETS:

Liars. It's a given, yeah? Liars are popular these days. I'm referring more to people who.. say one thing, and then .3 seconds later, they're doing something that absolutely contradicts what they said. It's a pretty common routine at certain servers, where everyone knows at least one person who's done this.

No one is that stupid to not notice. For fuck's sake, isn't it just easier to tell the truth?

Echoing @VirusZero : My Little Pony. For a time on InsaneJournal, staff and players at a lot of games would decide one day to bring in MLP crack plots. Or, they accepted MLP characters because why not, everyone loves Ponies and it makes for fun silly plots and and PONIES. JFC. I left one game because one of the mods and a player were apping for MLP. If there's a horror game, people would join for horror plots, not cartoon ponies or care bears or adventure time.

Semi-related: adventure time, archer, and similar animated shows. I see zero appeal in these shows. I'm sick of being thrown quotes and references and being expected to know what's going on. The humour, the cartoon style, everything: it's not for me. Go away.

I love MLP, but I absolutely get why it would drive some of you up the wall, especially with how obsessive some of the fandom gets. >.< I try to keep my pony overload contained to people who love it with me.

As for what I hate and everyone else loves? Let's just jump right out there: Adele. I know so many people who absolutely rave about her, and all I hear is a whiny singing voice that just grates at my eardrums. I'm happy that she's rocking a fabulous career, that she's insanely popular, but I really really don't need to hear it. I'll stick to classic rock, broadway musicals, filk, swing, celtic rock, gypsy punk, symphonic metal, electronic junk punk, reggae... well, pretty much everything else except most pop from the 80s and newer.

And am I the only person born in the 80s that absolutely thinks that decade was a black hole for good music? >.< Everyone my age is all "OMG $_80sBand is the best thing since sliced bread! Let's all put on neon leg warmers and crimp our hair! *squeal*" and all I want to do is find a hole in the ground and hide. Preferably with my ear drums ripped out.

Also, one more for the Star Wars hate wagon. I love scifi, star trek was my first love (even if it's the cotton candy of the scifi world), and a sizable portion of my book collection is science fiction. But I'm just going to say it: Star Wars is NOT science fiction. George Lucas doesn't even call it that. It's an epic fantasy set in space, it's a mythology with aliens and spaceships. And honestly, it isn't Star Wars I hate so much as the gate keepers who try to make me feel like I have to hand in my nerd card just because Star Wars isn't among my fandoms. When I can't turn around without hitting a Jedi or an Ewok in my online communities. And for FSM's sake, can we just not try to shoe horn the Star Wars stuff into my Star Trek? I'm happy that you enjoy both, I really am... but I don't need Star Wars in my Star Trek. Really. Thanks.

There was a time when I liked Game of Thrones, but when I look back on it now, I only liked it because it's the only high fantasy show around, and there were certain people in the rp community on twitter who made an horrible oc and used the face claim of the actress who plays Daenerys for it. (I believe that was the nail in the coffin, because I cannot think of the show without thinking of that character and their writer.)

I really do not like the Disney take on Star Wars. I despise The Force Awakens. It's a poor derivative of A New Hope and I love the originals, the prequels and the EU material which Disney dumped a lot more. It's like a fake version of it to me, and no, I do not care that there's a female lead, or about the race race of one of main males in it. The Star Trek series of the 80's and 90's, Buffy Stargate SG-1 did a good job with bringing strong female characters and people of colour into sci-fi, and fans didn't need to make a SWJ song and dance about it. (Plus, there are some very good female characters in the EU stuff, as well has Leia and Padme - we don't need a Sue like Rey.)

I'm not a fan of anime, or manga, not at all.

As for the Marvel movies, I'm not sure if I like them or not. I guess what I don't like is more the reliance of existing franchises being used to prop up the movie industry when it comes to making movies. Give us something original (or at least a book series which hasn't been made into movies before.)

I do not like YA books, or the movies/TV shows that are made from them. These, to me, highlight the degradation of literature and the loss of originality in the film/TV industry when it comes to sci-fi and fantasy.

I've seen every episode of both. I don't hate you. James Marsters will be at Comicon this weekend too. <33

I'll have to add in Katy Perry. While I like a song or to (Kissed a Girl and Hot and Cold are catchy okay) I really just don't care for her at all.

I missed the fandom, but dudette, James Marsters is amazing. He's got a wonderful voice, and I've heard part of his audio book reading for The Dresden Files, he did a fantastic job of it. And I loved him when he was on Torchwood. And then there was the time I met him at Wondercon because my BF at the time was a huge fan... and we're there getting his autograph and we start chatting, and dude, he's such a huge nerd. :heartswirl: Like, we're talking Star Trek and everything.

I gotta admit I kinda started crushing on him after that.

Anyhow, back on the topic at hand: What else do I hate on? Facebook. Everyone has a facebook account and look at me like I've got two heads when I tell them I won't touch it with a 39½ foot pole. No way, no how. >.<

Death Kitten...

I hear you on the facebook hate. People always say they'll find me on facebook, but when I reply that they won't they need a few seconds to understand the notion that I don't have a facebook account. That if I want to talk to someone then I call them (or they call me).

facebook is such a useless waste of space for 90% of things. No one cares that someone had a celery salami-calamari dip for brunch. And the vast majority of people who use facebook are stupid about it. I mean why would you ever consider it a good idea to moan about how bad your job is on social media with your boss following you. Or post that you're having so much fun on vacation and not going to be back for like 4 more days. (It's sad that we live in a world where this needs to done, but because we do... don't announce that your home is ripe for pilfering.)

That and facebook has just so many issues... right now they're having some problems with the site censoring political opinions they don't agree with. (Namely conservative. Now I'm not conservative myself... but that doesn't mean I think it's right. I mean that today it's conservatives... tomorrow it's pirate party and then the day after it's gamers or roleplayers. AKA groups I fit into...)

I'm gonna jump on the MLP hate bandwagon, but only for the modern, Friendship is Magic reinvention. Gimme classic 80s, Gen 1 MLP, pls. Bowtie is the best!

Also, @Daisy Johnson, I totally agree. There are very, very few stories that utilize zombies as the main antagonist that I actually enjoy. The ones that I do enjoy very rarely put emphasis on the zombie element and often focus instead on human elements in a post-zombie world. (Like The Last of Us.)

Christopher Nolan movies that aren't Memento. To me, that's the only movie of his that I've ever watched and wanted to watch again. I just find him... annoying... as a filmmaker. He tries too hard to be cool and mindbendy and stuff after his early success with that I think? (Yes, including his Batman trilogy here. Hatehatehate iiiiiiiit.)

Wonder Man. No thank you, two-bit pseudo-rapist Superman. I don't need you. Get out. And stay away from Wanda with your creepy AF mind games!

Also, I hated The 100 from the beginning. Now that their whole fanbase hates them, I kinda sit here laughing about it? Because I'm a terrible, awful person.

Captain America. Not because of the stupid HYDRA "plot-twist" either. I've just never really liked him. He's always seemed a bit bland to me? Hilariously, his three MCU movies are among my favorites.

...Don't get me started on MCU Hawkeye, pls? Or... MCU in general. YOU STARTED SO PROMISING WHAT HAPPENED?

Modern Tony Stark runs. Starting with the Kieron Gillen run. Way to ruin a character, dude. WTF is this retcon you came up with it makes no sense?! Also, like. Do people not understand multi-dimensional interpretations of character anymore? (Unfortunately, this has made its way into the RP realm and I am shocked by how many people don't "get" the dimensions for a slew of comic characters.)

"Lady Thor". I'm all for a woman wielding the hammer, but Thor is his name, not a title?!

Clearly I am full of haaaaaaate. HAAAAAATE. But actually I can't think of anything else atm. We shall see if I come up with anything else later. XD

What bothers me the most is that a zombie apocalypse really can't happen unless the governments and military of the world just put pants on their heads, cover their ears and start to scream really loudly while everything goes down. @txernest

The sad thing is, if you watch the way the us government has been behaving lately, it gets easy to think they would.

I'm selective about my zombie intake, with the *book* World War Z being a favorite (haven't seen the movie, probably never will, and if I could, I'd replace the movie with a high quality Netflix, HBO, or Showtime mini series). It focuses on the people, the reactions to this crazy and seemingly improbable thing, and you hardly have any direct interaction with the zombies shown in the narrative. It's wonderful. It may not be able to win you over to the zombie camp, but it's got a better chance if you're not one for the standard gore porn of the genre.

I'll have to check out the book version of WWZ then, @Death Kitten!

And yeaaaaaaaaah... the US government is getting to the point where they would totally stick their fingers in their ears and scream "LALALA" as the apocalypse broke out. I can see the other countries trying to help us and the gov refusing so then just the US is in quarantine as the zombies destroy us while the other countries of the world are fine because they actually paid attention... now I'm getting IDEAS, @Daisy Johnson!

You really do need to read wwz. Just based on what you said right there, and I'm not going to say anything more, but I think you really are of the right mind set to appreciate the format.

Everything I heard about the movie tells me they ripped the heart out and turned the idea into a zombie by making it into a typical zombie gore porn. So you probably want to avoid it. I generally heard that it would have been an okay zombie movie if it didn't call itself World War Z.

@Death Kitten; EXCELLENT. I will put it on my Amazon so next time I shop I'll buy it!

And lol, that seems to be the case with a lot of book/comic-to-screen adaptations.
