Here's a little solo I did for my rp version of Fili the dwarf.

Before the Dawn

It was the night before the company would set out on their quest to reclaim Erebor, and though he knew that a good night’s rest was in order for the following day, he just couldn’t get any rest. He was uneasy with the prospect, not because he was afraid to face the dragon, or any of the dangers that they may encounter on the trek. If anything, he looked upon that with a sense of excitement and adventure. No. What troubled him was that he knew why his uncle was taking him on this journey. He was the heir to the throne of the line of Durin. Of course, officially, Dwalin was the second in command of the company, but he only had that position because he was more experienced than the two young princes. If something happened to their uncle, the burden of leadership would fall to him, and he wasn’t sure if he was ready for it. Both Kili and himself were hardly what could be called adult dwarves and he did not believe that he had the experience to lead the company if anything befell his uncle. Worse than that, he worried about keeping Kili out of trouble. In his heart, he wished that Kili was staying behind with their mother, but he knew that Kili would never accept being left behind. He sat on the steps of the grand mead hall in Thorin’s Gate and watched Tilion shine his light on the mountain range, and it brought him some comfort. Even though it was spring, the nights remained cold in the mountains, and there was a light dusting of snow on the ground. Wind tugged at the braids in his hair. In the morning, he would be saying good bye to his home, possibly forever.
