Josie 198 Share Posted November 20, 2016 What it says on the tin! On any sites you're on, do you ever use the block function? Why or why not? I use it! There are some communities that I would like to be on, but certain individuals or behaviors drive me bonkers to the point where it puts me off of being there. If I can block them and don't have to see what they're up to, then I can continue on as normal! 3 1 1 WANTED: flamboyantly rich & famous family members, workers for a creepy foundation, & an AI handler
Rune 1,099 Share Posted November 20, 2016 I don't, but I also run the board so it isn't really an option for me. Even if I didn't, I don't think I would because I dislike having a portion of things missing and generally only block people if they're getting to harassment. And even then, I'll take it to staff first because I've got no tolerance for stupid. 3 3 Heart of the Community 2018 Cry Wolf - 18+ AU Mercy Thompson (Urban Fantasy) RP
VirusZero 176 Share Posted November 20, 2016 On roleplay sites? I've never needed to. On other sites? Yeah, there are a few people who I have blocked. (Not many though... I think 4 in total across like 24 sites. And 3 of them are on one site. Also amusingly I had one person, who is on two sites, blocked on site X but not on site Y. I think the core reason for that was that on site X they were pushing some pretty heavy SJW nonsense whereas on the other site they weren't. Plus there was a time gap too so they were on site Y later than X so I'd had time to cool off some. I'd also like to think they re-evaluated things and realised their earlier arguments weren't that good. Though at least I hope they knocked off the SJW crap. ) 2 "There are three sides to every story... Your side, their side, and then somewhere in the middle is the truth." Icewolf 258 Share Posted November 20, 2016 On twitter, quite frequently sadly. (I wish I could do that on other sites too, but even though I have them set to ignore, I still get their notifications, which is annoying and they insist on replying to my posts. The person just has a way of rubbing my back up the wrong way so I avoid the board now as I don't like to get annoyed with someone all the time.) The SJW stuff that surrounds a lot of fandoms has ruined a lot of the internet experiences for me because even if you only slightly disagree with them on a point, or don't choose your words wisely, it sets them off, and I am fed up of seeing politics, especially stuff to do with brexit and the recent US election everywhere. People have taken slight disagreements in politics and SJW stuff into an excuse to attack people personally these days. 2 1 Legends of Arda Character Archives
Admin Morrigan 1,826 Admin Share Posted November 20, 2016 I block people as I see fit. There is a certain level of stupid that I can handle and if you pass that threshold than I use the ignore feature. I actually have a significant amount of people that I ignore on one site just because there is no low that the stupid won't stoop there. Here I don't but that's because I have to make sure that everyone is behaving. >_> (Fortunately for me I rarely have problems). On RP sites I don't think I've ever had to ignore someone, than again ignoring someone ON an RP is far more difficult because you not only have to block an OOC account but you have to block each character and each new character and there is no way to ignore someone in the cBox short of ignoring the cBox altogether. I'm good at pretending people don't exist though. 1 2 Profile set made by myself and original Artwork by Fae Merriman, my daughter.
Bishop 172 Share Posted November 20, 2016 I do! On the RPG-D there is one person I blocked completely. My only problem was that when they would get quoted I could still see the replies, so I recently went to see if I could actually fix that, but you can't. SO if someone quotes them in a reply I see that. 2 "Everyone has been doing so much soul searching during all of this, and I'm just over here drawing pics of my character's dicks." Robmin 10 Share Posted November 21, 2016 I do on other sites, and occasionally I've asked for tweaks to blocked messages be made if the person really gets my back up such as making sure that blocked posts are totally hidden/can't see them etc. However I don't on my own site just as I need to monitor everyone. Also my point of view on my own site is if they're annoying me enough to get blocked (and I'm generally pretty placid)... then what the heck are they making the other members feel like?
CovertSphinx 710 Share Posted November 21, 2016 (edited) Only for really F-d up stuff. Three on Facebook - one a "friend" who made an advance on my bf, one a "friend" of said bf who tried to make advances on me, and one a long-time friend who decided that people's Human status depended solely on their choice of presidential vote. Jacob 58 Share Posted November 22, 2016 (edited) I have employed the blocking function many times, primarily at resource communities like this. (Not yet here, thankfully!) There are people in the pastime whom I have both forgiven and prayed for after falling-outs. However, save a dear staff group from my ani-manga days, I no longer 'cast pearls before swine.' Outside collaborative writing venues, I have barred almost all of my former classmates (they bullied me horrendously). I must also ban 'young women' (a typical disguise by con-artists) that essay friend-ing my Face Book and/or Twitter, sometimes. Gina 17 Share Posted November 26, 2016 (edited) God. I did not use this function until there was that one person who just drove me batshit. They used their character to terrorize mine/my best friend's and the admin couldn't really do anything about it at the time for extremely complicated reasons so I finally said "screw it, you're getting blocked" and then I ignored all of their posts and it was glorious. xexes 108 Share Posted January 31, 2017 (edited) I blocked a few on a directory site because they were very vocal with their very vile opinions and I couldn't read anything they wrote on any subject without feeling sick to my stomach. I also blocked several people on a directory site because I had wronged them and I just uncontrollably wanted to make it right by any means possible, but they wanted none of it. So the block was out of personal sanity and self-preservation. On FB I have a few people blocked because they pose a personal danger. All the idiots are just hidden from my stream or quietly de-friended. Edited January 31, 2017 by xexes A relaxed, dark and gritty roleplay based on Disney's Zootopia. Syn 1 Share Posted February 1, 2017 I don't block people. What people write doesn't impact me so I've never been inclined to hide someone's content from view.
