I've got some rants I'm sitting on, all of them based around fandom-based RPs, but I won't dump them here all at once. The character won't even be doing anything wrong and other characters will just come up start treating them like utter shit. You wanna have your characters  hate mine's? Fine. Some of them have done/or do stuff that are pretty despicable, and all of them are flawed (because those kinds of characters are the most fascinating to me). Have your guys hate them for those reasons, not "OMG I think your character is stoopid/ugly/old/a threat to my OTP, lol." Or using fanon to support (nonsensical) arguments against them.

 

 

I've known people to use IC aggressiveness towards characters as a cover for bullying the writer. Sometimes they don't like a writer's stance on politics, don't like a writer's lifestyle (if the writer has made their political opinions/lifestyle known), or if they want to ship their character with a popular canon character they'll try to go down that route. Sometimes they'll just brand your character a Mary-Sue if your character only as one or two traits associated with Sues. If your character wants to be friends with theirs, no matter how friendly or loyal your character tries to be, they will still try to find a way to twist your character's intentions. It's not always clear at first that they are doing it, but you end up noticing a pattern eventually. (The politics/lifestyle one is the most insidious one I've come across.)

@Icewolf: I'm not surprised to hear that. At this point nothing fans do (or people I guess) surprises me anymore. In my case I could tell it was just the character they had issues with, since I  didn't put any kind of personal info like that out there. But a player getting bullied via their character for their personal lives and such  is leagues worse.

 

And the whole "your character's a Mary Sue!" thing kills me too. There are characters out there that actually fall into that category, but people nowadays just use it to slander characters they hate or who stand out in some manner.

I'm tired of laying out three to five potential scenes for a new arc, and my players going "I don't know where to put my character".

 

Like, bitch, I made you options. None of them are perfect, but at least half of them are good enough, and as long as you ask me first, you can set up your own scene in the group thread.

Piggybacking off the previous post because I relate so much but... Lack of initiative. Don't be afraid to use your imagination and do something! Rather than relying on your partner to carry the whole rp. If you think you need permission to do something, just ask. Don't sit on your hands and don't say anything. We've given you this stuff to play with for a reason so go ahead and now play with it!

I am tired of seeing in either cbox or discord "I have no idea what my charrie is up to" or my personal favorite that makes me cringe "He is being stubborn and doesn't want to tell me why"

I am tired of hearing from the same person"I don't know where to integrate my character" gave this person options she took one and then she poofed saying they be right back has not been on in days after plotting with another person....f you gonna bitch that no one plays with you stop coming in the forum when your buddy is on and not rp with others except for your buddies and then say I have no idea where to integrate my charrie.

I am tired of people joining and for weeks say I don't know what to make not sure which species or what I want...why oh why...

I am tired of people showing up only when an event is announced because they want the goodies that come with good event development(Award ribbons and points for the store)

I am tired that when I mass pm I see people show up that have posted once and then say I am sorry I been busy but I am here...no buster you are not here haven't been for a month (When I do massPM mostly with changes, additions and event announcements.

Tired of dealing with the sneaky progressive approval method. The ones who tell you every single thing that they're going to put in their app, seeking your approval the entire way through. It's like some sneaky way to skirt the regular approval process, and while I appreciate the enthusiasm, I don't think these types realise how annoying and time consuming this stuff is. Please just submit your app and THEN I will approve/pend/deny, like everyone else.

On that same note Tired of answering questions that are clearly in the rules or species sheet, while trying to work on my posts...I don't mind answering questions but when you ask questions that are answered by reading rules or species info it sort of gets old.

Though I haven't rped or modded in months, I still feel a fraction of what stopped me rping: doing more 'work' ala low-key arguments and defending my fort instead of just signing in and writing scenes. I'm tired of having to justify this, that and the other, pulling teeth before the audience even dips a  foot into my rp lagoon. Because there may well be crocs waiting. :T

Everybody wants to be first but when it’s turned on them, they’re all about the stress and the pressure making it hard to write. Sometimes I write what is freshest in my mind over what’s been sitting for a while. It’s not meant to be an insult.

From the stereotypes thread... because I wanted to rant a little: Broad terms like site is safe and welcoming is turning into a pet peeve. Safe and welcoming to who? How is it safe? What does safe mean to you? How do you maintain that site is safe (whatever that means)? Advertising your site as safe and welcoming means nothing. Asking for a site that is safe and welcoming also means nothing.

 

Just say what you mean, and stop relying on empty buzzwords.
