While your member is unreasonable, I can see how it can be deterring to have people talking about something you can't participate in, even if you really want to. It can't be avoided but how you go about it can help make things easier for new members.

 

How about having one thread where old members can add "memories" of the old site so that new people know what people are talking about. Set it up like a claim: clear, simple, professional. Don't allow chatter or discussion because that would add to the "I was here but you weren't" sensation. Allow links to old threads if you still have access to them. You can include old inside jokes that were open to all old members, such as your skin fiasco, and old plots and events. Avoid personal plots and jokes. Make it clear that it's for reference and not to divide between old and new.
