Membership Polyvore is gone

Polyvore is gone.  It was shut down by Ssense a few days ago (I think they acquired it) and they've stated that it's not coming back.  Apparently Ssense wanted the email lists and user information of the polyvore members.

 

I loved polyvore.  It was a perfect platform to merge together visual art and writing, and now it's gone.  All those pictures and collages I've made over the years have been vanished.  I knew it was a possibility that if the website ever vanished, all our work would vanish, too, but this is silly.  Now I'm not sure what to do.  Does anyone know an alternative that would allow RPers to make collages for their characters and plots?

 

All those poor people who spent every day on Polyvore crafting beautiful artistic pieces. . . . And those people who RPed directly on polyvore itself. . . . They're in even worse shape than the rest of us.

 

Edit - If you're a polyvore user, visit their blog: http://blog.polyvore.com/  You can request your content to be sent to you, and you can opt out of having your information given to Ssense.

I don't know of any alternatives but I do know that if you got an email you could request a download your content.  You could also opt out of Sense getting your info, although I don't know how true that is.

 

I hadn't really used polyvore in a while but I used to all the time to display character outfits for threads.

Oh that's so sad 😞 I loved Polyvore. There were times I struggled to get a thread started until I had figured out what my people were wearing. And omfg some of the art people made in it was ponies-damn ridiculous!

 

I opted out. We'll see if that did anything soon, I suppose.

I have never used Polyvore. If I wanted to show an attire or a weapon of a character, pinterest was the best choice for me, as I simply saved there, under each character, what was specific to them. If I wanted to make a photocollage of any kind, I have always used postermywall.com

I agree with @Elena - I've been using pinterest much more than polyvore for the last few years. It's not the same, but it's worked really well for me. I'd suggest giving it a look until a polyvore replacement comes up.

They are invitation only right now, and I have not gotten a reply back about my request to join their closed beta, but they are pretty much calling themselves a Polyvore clone. I will report back once I find anything more about it (if they send me an invite XD)

The nice thing about the downloading your content option is any collages you made they send. You don't have the item links and such, but you do have the pretty pictures still to post somewhere if you need. It really does suck it's gone. While I like Pinterest, the thing with it is you have to individually link the images instead of to the Pinterest link itself otherwise people can't see specifically what you linked to unless they have a Pinterest account too. With Polyvore, people didn't also have to have an account to view the images.

Yeah, I didn't do outfits nearly as much as I did genera collages.  I loved assembling "rooms" and "settings" for my characters or conveying a general attitude.  It was really nifty for Hunger Games because I could easily convey an arena theme without having to go to multiple websites, gather images, re-host, etc.  And unlike photoshop, there was minimal cropping needed to be done, and plenty of pictures that already had the background removed from them so they flowed very well.

 

Though I did make outfits on occasion.

Postermywall can help you with photocollages. And you have the opportunity to bring your images for photocollages from anywhere on the web  I wouldn't have liked Polyvore also because, as far as I understood, it was more focused on present day things, while I am seeking other websites for historical fashion, houses, etc.

@Jax, I was checking in on chicvore and it looks like it was literally created by angry polyvorians who were pissed that their work was destroyed.  Anyhow, according to this news article which was written on 04/17/2018, the invites for chicvore are supposed to go out within a week or two.  I'm not sure how reliable of a source that is, but chicvore retweeted the article.

 

Some of those other sites look decent, but I'm really looking for an artistic/collage perspective, not fashion.  And most of those look like stores.  To my relief, this other article talks about how chicvore states that its primary function is not a store but a creative/art community.  Hopefully it all turns out well and they open soon as I'm a bit impatient.  But not impatient enough to join something I don't really want.

I agree, I want somewhere to focus on fashion and characters, but not like... fashion-fashion with shopping. Just having somewhere to upload my stuff a week ago eased a lot of my anxiety over thinking it was gone lol.
