Intro:
Three on a Match is a gothic horror/supernatural RP based in a city. Like most cities, the community has a body that tries their best to police them and maintain the balance. This is the Exchange for the city of Easthaven and Theo's their boss. They're the supernatural sheriffs: working for the greater good, the continued secrecy of the supernatural community, and the safety of the beings within their jurisdiction. They're about the greater good and they're only concerned with magical crime. You have the cops for the mundane stuff!
I recommend dipping into our Guidebook for context on the player groups you can use to create your characters, but below is a condensed write up of the Exchange in Easthaven and what they do. There's an adoptables list at the bottom with some ideas to get anyone interested thinking, but we'll welcome any from-scratch characters as well!
Context:
The Exchange has been in Easthaven since before there was the United States of America, originally an offshoot from the Boston cohort as they grew and evolved. They put down roots as industry grew and urban development took over the wilderness, the world and growing community making it clear that they had to have a regular presence in Easthaven with its busy trade and penchant for the weird. Today, Easthaven's Exchange is led by Inquisitor Theo Crowhurst, dedicated to his job and jaded.
The agents range from your garden variety humans to half-bloods and undead, even the occasional shifter. Their sense of ingroup loyalty is second to none, no matter how pleasant or unpleasant you are. The Easthaven cohort is relatively small, moonlighting as a supposedly moderately successful PI firm without actually taking on any customers. Here Crowhurst leads a variety of experts and newbies, young and old.
If you're interested in making an Exchange agent, go ahead and list it as their career! If you want to be an old hand or a new hire, anything goes, but it's recommended to check out the other Exchange agents. What your character does for the Exchange can be self-defined, whether they go deep into practising magic, lean more towards CSI style work, or good old-fashioned detective work.
The coffee at the office is little better than sludge, but it keeps you up all night.
Available ranks:
- Senior Agent: You've been around the block and seen more than a few things. A veteran of the Exchange.
- Agent: Neither new nor old, you've experienced enough that no one calls you rookie anymore.
- Junior Agent: You're fresh on the job, possibly bright and bushy-tailed. Everyone will call you 'rookie' whether you like it or not.
Below are a few character hooks and some insight into some of the hijinks you can have in character creation.
Adoptables
Lawson | Junior Agent
Partnered up with Marszalek, Lawson is fresh and eager, but she does have experience with arcanists and rituals. She doesn't necessarily need to be an arcanist to be experienced in the area. Known to have a bit of a pushy personality.
Marszalek | Junior Agent
Partnered up with Lawson, Marszalek is the more experienced of the two, but he's laid back and happy to let Lawson take point. He's something of a charmer and that's how he digs up information.
Pickens | Agent / Senior Agent
Pickens has a passion for obituaries and keeps track of the reported deaths in the Easthaven area, usually through the various newspapers published locally. Maybe he's got a link-up with the city coroner, maybe he used to be one, whatever it is, he's the one everyone goes to about dead bodies.
Dahl | Junior Agent / Agent
Dahl is of Scandinavian heritage and a half-blood of some troll variety. Quite tall and imposing, they've got the intimidation factor down perfectly, but their work in the field is up to par with the rest of the agents. Having trolls for relatives doesn't make them stupid, just sturdier than your average being.
Aldane | Agent / Senior Agent
With long life comes long experience. Aldane is a Germanic undying who willingly sacrificed himself to the bog for his village during a famine. Rather than become another bog body to be discovered, the combination of ritual, faith, and the belief of his village slid Aldane into undeath as an undying being. He's slogged through time, but that dedication to the greater good hasn't faded and now he's one of a few undying on the Exchange payroll. Time range: 500 BC – 800 AD (Northern European Iron Age)
