How do I attract people to my site?

An anonymous user asked me:   Hello anon and thank you for the ask!   It is difficult to say that there are things you can do to attract people to your forum without advertising, but there are definitely things you can do to make guests want to stay! Have activity on your forum. No one wants to join an empty forum, one without any posts. That means if you are the only member, you need to be posting- even if it's with yourself! On the matter of the urge to run more than one site...

An anonymous user asked me:   Boy, do I ever empathize with this situation! And unfortunately, I don't have a simple response.   Firstly, I would like to say that you should always do what's best for you. In the event that you are inspired over something new but are lacking inspiration for your current site, go with the new thing. Don't feel like you have to hang around and play with what already feels dead to you just because you feel obligated to entertain others.

February Update 2

Hey again everyone!   We have been working hard to improve the look and feel around the site as well as adding helpful new awesome features. One of those new features is Two Factor Authentication. This is currently enabled to help protect your account from being hijacked if it is ever hacked. If you have suggestions for more questions that we can add (if you choose to do security questions over Google Authenticator) than don't hesitate to post in that thread and give us some ideas!

Feeling cheated

Sometimes I am feeling cheated of character development. Cheated in my writing, in the story we are writing together, not receiving the same thing I am offering, but only a tenth part. Someone's taken my wanted ad, and I don't want them to...

It sounds like you're a staffer, and if that's the case then I would encourage you to have the member speak with this person! In my opinion, this is not a task which the staff should have to handle, but then again I place strong emphasis on members being able to stand up for themselves and communicate their wants and needs. Concern over playing a controversial character- what to do

An anonymous individual came to me with the concern about playing a character that could be the source of some controversy. The character in question is from a series which takes an alternate- and obviously fictional- look at real events and people. Fandoms!

I was reading the script for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and this made me think about the various fandoms I like. I am lazy

Yes, I am lazy. Or, rather, tired, both physically and mentally. I am 48 and sometimes I feel 100.   I wish I was feeling and thinking differently, but not anymore. Involve your members

Don't write alone, they say. Involve your members, because RPG means interaction. Well, it means interaction between characters, and this could be achieved even if they are written by only one writer.   What if the members CAN get involved, but they don't want to? I would have liked to involve them in all threads, to have characters of all kind (not only NPCs) shared, or at least to have discussions among writers even if I have to write some threads alone. They seem to simply not be interested.

Inactivity

I admit I am confronted with an activity problem on my nearly six years old site. Most of the sites have one, at a moment or another.   I feel it is something wrong with the very slow pace we have progressed with this year, and with people posting, instead of each week, only 1-2 times a month. Fantasy Genre Confusion

After going through and updating suggested fandoms and genres there still seems to be confusion on why there is no "Fantasy" genre within the Directory and other locations on the site and I feel that we need to clear up this confusion as it appears to give pause to many people that are trying to select their "genre" and we want to try to mitigate this confusion as best as we can.   I'm sure all of you remember my post from over a year ago here: http://morrigansmadness.com/2015/02/
