It probably doesn't hurt that there are more and more free hosts for websites and forums these days, paid hosting is cheaper, etc. So anyone can start a game, you don't have to fight your way up the ranks within an org that people pool resources together to host the games on a joint website or list serv, which served as a sort of Darwinian filtration for quality of staff. So there are probably a lot more inexperienced staff running games. It's certainly not a bad thing, but if you're a long time RPer, you just kinda want to pull the children into a hug, shush them, and put them down for a nap.

Absolutely. And also, more forums means people aren't so careful about acting out because they know they can just move on somewhere else, whereas back in the day there weren't all that many roleplay sites/forums/whatever. So it kinda forced people to learn how to roleplay realistically. But as you said, more inexperienced staff, so it's hard for people to learn that that if the staff themselves are doing this kind of thing.
