Well, another method - albeit an unpopular one, is to make all the subboards with important stuff about your site - i.e. Lore/information threads, character profiles, etc. be hidden from guest viewing. Of course, this also tends to put off many potential members as well. And it doesn't really stop a determined plagiarist from signing up just to steal content. And oh, or spiteful ex-members who might've copied stuff just before they're banned and all.

You can't really stop them from stealing anything, just you have copyright protection.  My approach is to compartmentalize all of your major plot ideas.  This doesn't mean hide it all, just those future plots you intend on doing, make sure those are secret.

I had an idea of mine stolen once and then they accused me of stealing from them (though the time stamps of the plot threads clearly showed that I had posted it first).  I attempted to negotiate, but in the end there isn't much you can do.

The same goes for stealing graphics.  They can copypaste or make a derivative of your work.  Once, another site used the same url for the image I used for a background of a site.  I modified the image with some rather rude remarks (they should have known better) and hilarity ensued.  Needless to say, they took down the background.
