Tyrone 3 Share Posted July 5, 2020 Hey all, I’m looking to start my own self-hosted site, and I also want somewhere I can use to practice code I’ll be learning in a course I’m due to start in September. Do you guys have anywhere you can recommend? I also require a host that never sends communication in the post and keeps it strictly to email. Thanks

Grimscythe 181 Share Posted July 7, 2020 Personally I’ve only ever used Dreamhost, and their shared hosting is pretty bad. If you’re getting a VPS, it’s nice though. They have never (I’ve been using them for about a decade) sent me mail, so that’s a plus.

Also, since I’m going for shared hosting and @Grimscythedescribed Dreamhost’s shared hosting as pretty bad, if anyone else has suggestions it’d be really appreciated. Grimscythe 181 Share Posted July 8, 2020 Yes, all communications are typically done by email. They've got my number, and they've never called me either.

Naboo 5 Share Posted August 25, 2020 I will say that I've never gone through the self-hosting process myself but I have been admin of several sites that were self-hosted, and most recently I made my own on RPG-Init to give it a go. RPG-Init does offer a very intuitive and free space to learn, and also the cpanel control gives a great boost for someone just starting to venture out on their own. I would highly recommend giving it a go. It also gives you the freedom to choose which forum software you'd like to install, whereas some others are limited to specifically one.
