Varos 0 Share Posted February 11, 2016 (edited) Everyone has a favorite movie or TV show. If you are like me, you have about ten thousand favorites. But some are just universally awesome, and everyone needs to watch them. What movies/tv shows do you think everyone needs to see? I'd say Doctor Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. If you like Neil Patrick Harris, you'll love this quirky film about a super villain who's in love, a cocky superhero, and a great story. Also, there's a little treat for lovers of Big Bang Theory, Firefly, and/or The Guild (all three of which are awesome shows, and I know I'm focusing on Doctor Horrible, but you need to check them out too). Seriously, check it out, it's pretty short. What about you guys? Admin Morrigan 1,826 Admin Share Posted February 11, 2016 Such a difficult question. I've seen SOOOO many! I think my current one would be....The Exam. One of the best Psychological thrillers I've ever seen right next to Pontypool or Pandorum. 1 Profile set made by myself and original Artwork by Fae Merriman, my daughter. I've never heard of any of them, but as a university student, the title The Exam sounds like something from my nightmares. I do love psychological movies, so I will definitely check them out. Speaking of psychological, I was watching the Stanford Prison Experiment, and it was really interesting (especially since it ties so closely to the actual experiment). 1 Distension A fantasy and supernatural RP with multiple worlds, 20+ races, 60+ unique abilities, 150 WC, and a friendly environment! Admin Morrigan 1,826 Admin Share Posted February 11, 2016 That sounds pretty cool. I really love psych thrillers a lot. If you enjoy them then I think another one would be "The Circle" or "Antiviral". Antiviral is this amazing movie that blows my mind about celebrity obsession. 2 Profile set made by myself and original Artwork by Fae Merriman, my daughter. Autumn 0 Share Posted February 11, 2016 Jessica Jones, daredevil(Netflix version), supernatural (for the lulz), Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (not campy), ZOmbeavers (SUPER CAMPY), Z-nation (hilarious), walking dead, game of thrones, the last unicorn, The tudors (if you're into costume porn - not so much for the history as they took liberties). BLACK ADDER - all of the black adder. Monty python, Sense8 ( really interesting show - netflix) , did I mention black adder?
Admin Morrigan 1,826 Admin Share Posted February 11, 2016 Ouuu! Orphan black is another one that's awesome as well as Black Mirror. Black Mirror I will caution though because if you are squeamish at all then I don't recommend watching the first episode. The rest are fine but they are pretty intense as they raise a lot of very interesting subjects in very unique ways. 2 Profile set made by myself and original Artwork by Fae Merriman, my daughter. Rivfader 76 Share Posted February 12, 2016 Vikings is amazing so far. I'm so excited for Season 4. It might not be totally historically accurate, but it's still a great show. And as was mentioned before, I think, Monty Python! If you haven't seen anything by Monty Python you literally have not lived.
Varos 0 Author Share Posted February 12, 2016 Monty Python is great. I've only seen three movies, but I've seen a lot of skits. Also, if you like comedy with some seriousness in it, In Bruges is a film I recently watched and quite enjoyed. 1 Distension A fantasy and supernatural RP with multiple worlds, 20+ races, 60+ unique abilities, 150 WC, and a friendly environment! Lady Isadorabelle 8 Share Posted February 14, 2016 (edited) X-files for sure. Lately I've been on a Flash kick and really do recommend it, though in both cases they aren't really substance shows. Black Mirror, however, is and one that I have to agree with @Morrigan. Snowpiercer on Netflix is one I'd really consider a must-watch and is up there with Black Mirror. Both shows make you ask questions about class, technology, society and the role we play in it. And, if those go completely over one's head...there's some neat stuff in the shows that might be inspirational for a game lol. Let's see, The 100 is another show I'd recommend giving a go. I always thought it was a tween show and...I was wrong! haha. It's the sort of show that I think role players in particular really should watch a few episodes of as it's a very rich world, if that makes sense. I would say Doctor Who, Firefly and Farscape, but all of them are only a must watch for people who are interested in that niche to begin with. Otherwise it's a lost cause to try to convert someone to be a Whovian. I tried, they tried, we ended up watching Harry Potter. Darth Tater 0 Share Posted February 16, 2016 House of Cards, 30 Rock, and Brooklyn 99. Bam. House of Cards - political thriller (ish?) Basically, it's one crazy dude with his crazy wife and they try to get all the power. You'll hate Francis Underwood, but you'll be rooting for him. 30 Rock - It's an older (and by that, I mean that it began in 2008-ish) show but it's great. Absolutely fantastic. If you like Tina Fey, go to Netflix and watch the heck out of it immediately. Brooklyn Nine-Nine - if you like humor and detectives, go watch it now. Andy Samberg's character is hilarious, and the whole squad is excellent.
Huskerdust 625 Share Posted February 24, 2016 If you love cheesy 80s stuff and haven't seen Kung Fury yet, go watch it! I believe it's on Netflix now and it should still be on Youtube! 3 Reality is an illusion.
Cloud 0 Share Posted March 23, 2016 (edited) Parasyte the Maxim Ergo Proxxy Psycho Pass Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex All of them are a short series without a ton of episodes. You also don't need any prior knowledge of the series to get into it and it's different than your typical popular anime like Naruto, Bleach, One Piece and Dragon Ball. The art style, storyline and characters are all interesting. There's little to no fan service (which has always been a turn off for me). I'd recommend either the DUB or SUB versions. You also don't need to be big into anime to enjoy these. They don't follow your typical anime trends. Edited March 23, 2016 by Cloud
VirusZero 176 Share Posted March 23, 2016 For TV shows... If you like shows based around police procedurals and the supernatural then check out Lucifer. It blends both worlds fairly well. Plus the cast really sells it. (Tom Ellis plays a very sympathetic and charismatic devil.) For zombie lovers Walking Dead is probably the best option for a serious take. iZombie might be more up your alley though if you like some humour in there. But it's a CW show so... grain of salt and all that. Speaking of other CW type shows... Live-action Superhero shows like Flash and DC Legends of Tomorrow are ok... But honestly their writing centres far too heavily on angst and relationship drama. Arrow suffers from this too but it was especially bad in Season 3. So if you like the relationship stuff then they'll probably be worth your time But if you're looking for some good action and interesting story, you're more likely to be disappointed and frustrated by the constant time spent backpedaling and wasting around dealing with relationship drama. Honestly the cartoon based versions are probably more appealing if you're looking for action or plot. For anime lovers... Ghost in the Shell (SAC, Movie 1, Movie 2, Arise, etc...) are all pretty good. Fair warning though they can be extremely psychological and philosophical. (They deal HEAVILY in the idea of what makes a person human.) Though they also have a fair bit of action. Plus cyborgs and that's just awesome. (Also, tachikomas.) Also they aren't series for kids so expect violence, nudity and whatnot. Full Metal Alchemist (and FMA: Brotherhood) should be near the top. Amazing animation, cool characters with motivations and desires. The story in FMA veers off from Brotherhood (Brotherhood follows the manga) but is definitely worth watching to see. Also be sure to check out Conqueror of Shambala since it picks up after the events of FMA. Fate/Stay Night and Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works have this unreal quality of "just one more episode" which easily leads to 4-5 episodes being watched at a shot. Great animation, interesting story and cool characters are all great reasons to watch. Busou Renkin is not one that everyone will love. But it's pretty funny and action filled. (Especially Papillion.) 2 "There are three sides to every story... Your side, their side, and then somewhere in the middle is the truth."
