    Old and young

Some sites discourage really young or old characters. On some sites they are forbidden, on others they don't find plots. Do you like writing such characters? Why yes or why not? I like writing all kind of characters, as the story requires. Young, old, middle-aged, men, women, boys, girls. I succeeded to NPC babies too when needed. I think it adds realism to the story and its environment, because people in real life do interact with others of all ages. So I have written from babies and toddlers to 50-70 years old characters (yes, for me NPCs are characters too, support
  2. So, obviously, you always start small, and after moves and big changes you can expect things to be a bit slow. However, I have noticed a weird pattern in people looking for forums. They don't want to join a small forum that's slowly growing, because they want immediate booming activity. But, how does a forum create that "booming activity" when people refuse to join and help them grow? We have advertised like crazy, affiliated like crazy, and we are still finding that people will browse the forum as guests, but never commit to joining. Those that do join, leave because they don't want to actual
  3. ASK MOUSIE ANYTHING I pretty much haunt boards like this in search of places to give advice, and new documentations I can write. I'd like to get an idea of what questions people have about anything/everything related to forum RP that I might be able to help with. Thus, I invite you to ask me anything! No question too silly, too dumb, or too out there. Feel free to use the anonymous function if you're not comfortable with having it attached to your username. I've been a board admin since 2003, with a break there between 2013 and 2017. During that gap, I continued to roleplay an
  4. So I've recently seen a lot of this sort of behavior in a couple groups I Mod for. Members submit new characters with powers or abilities which are either too powerful, not suited for the setting, or are blatantly breaking a rule. When Admin asks the member to edit the ability, set guidelines for it, or limit in some fashion, the member responds with, "If you don't let me have this ability as-is, I quit." The most recent "Gimme or I quit!" response I received was after telling a member that we would allow him/her to have the overpowered ability for his/her character, but that it m
  5. I'm sure we all know the cycle. You start a forum with maybe one or two interested parties and you start advertising your site. Meanwhile, you and your buddies are RPing and hoping that your site gathers at least a few other people to play with you! But as folks visit your site, and they see that you have only a few people playing, they say, "You don't have enough members. I'm not joining a site that doesn't have lots of members!" and they leave -- even if you and your friends are RPing daily, and in many different places! So no one will join your site because it only has a few
  6. I don't know how common a problem this is but It absolutely drives me insane, and particularly right now. I'm a pretty lenient admin, so if someone misses something then I just shoot them a PM, let them know and wait for them to fix it. I'm probably a little too lenient because I will do this several times. Especially on a new site when I'm trying to build a member base I want to be accommodating and helpful. But what do you do when a member is blatantly either ignoring or not understanding the simplest rules? Example: The number one rule on my sites is
