So sometimes you don't want a new moderator to manage all forums that they are on. For example, you may want to hire an advertising moderator but you do not want them to be able to manage any other forums but the advertising forums. Well this guide will walk you through a few options.
Lets start with the easiest version of a moderator first which is the global moderator. Now to explain a global moderator they can moderate any area they can see. So if you give them view access to an admin forum they have access to moderate that area as well. Be careful with Global Moderators.
How you setup a global moderator is on a group level.
-
In your Admin Control Panel open Users and Groups:
- Click "Manage User Groups"
-
You can either create a new group or edit an existing group here.
-
In here scroll to the bottom and you will find the "Super Moderator" option.
- This is where you can also give this group admin panel permissions but that's for another guide.
- Save the group and you're set.
The next two types are pretty similar as you can add a member or a group individually to a forum. The group is good if you don't want to have to re-setup the permissions every time someone is switched out of a position however if you have specific forums that a member should moderate (lets say a faction forum that they are the leader of or on a panfandom forum the fandom that they had added to the forums list) then you can add a single member. The steps are the same for each type, we'll give the screenshots where you have multiple choices below.
-
To add individual members or groups to forums you need to go to "Forum Control"
-
Here you click on "Moderators"
- Here you will checkmark any forums that you wish to give the member or group access to moderate.
- At the bottom in the drop down you need to choose if it's a "single Member" or "Group"
- Click "Add moderator to forums"
-
On this screen you will be able to choose the group or member. If you chose group you will get this screen:
However if you choose single member you will get two screens. The first asking you for a partial part of the members name:
Then you will get a list of any member with the partial name you typed in in a drop down to choose from. You can enter the entire username however just remember that it will look for the whole thing that you type in so misspellings will affect this.
-
The next screen is the same for both. You will be able to choose the moderator options. Note any permissions you give to the member or group they will have in the forums you chose in the first screen only. Move topic though will allow the member to move a topic to any forum they can see so if you do not want them moving topics do not give them permissions to do that.
- Click "Add this moderator" and you're done. If the forum is deleted so are the moderator permissions that you setup.
Really that's all there is to it. If you have questions feel free to ask.
