  1. Good Day, I had a site hosted with the Initiative and loved it. I now have a friend that is looking for hosting a Vesta (formerly Gaia) site and I recommended the Initiative. My friend has never hosted before and would be relying on me and her site's tech admin to do most of the server side upkeep of her site. I cannot remember from when I had my site hosted here - can more than one person get access to the cPanel? I am assuming that the answer is yes and all we need to do is share the sign-on and password between the 3 of us. I didn't see anything in the hosting terms that states that only the account owner is allowed access. Thanks!
  2. Your first task is to download the database! The database contains all of the information you need to transfer your forum across to a new host. This includes accounts and posts. To download the database: Go to your icyboards ACP. Click on IcyBoards Settings. Click on Database Back Ups. Click Back Up Now. Wait about five minutes and you will see this: Click on download to download the .gz file. This is your database! Now it's time to go to your CPanel! Instructions to get to your cpanel was emailed to you when you registered your hosting service. The first thing you need to do is install mybb. If you've already done this, you can skip these steps. Drop down to the button of the window. Under Popular Installs there is a Mybb icon. Click on it. Click Install Now. Leave Choose Protocol, Choose Domain and In Directory the same. For the following: Site Name - Your site's name. Board Name - Your board's name. Board Email - leave as. Admin Username - Your username. Admin Email - Your email. Pick one you typically use because this is the account that will receive any notifications. Click Save. The script will run to install your forum. Once the script has been run, you will be given a link to your forum and administrator profile. Don't leave the CPanel yet! The Import of the database! Click on RPG Initiative at the top of the screen to go back to the CPanel homepage. Click on phpMyAdmin A new tab will open. In the new tab, click on the database that was created as part of the installation process. It will be called something like cpanelusername_mybb375 (the numbers are random). When you click on the database, all of your database details will load. Click on Import. Click Choose File. Navigate to the database you downloaded earlier and click open. Click Go. Wait. A pop up will let you know when it's done. If this process fails for you, please just ask for help here. If you're with another host, you should contact them, not us! Once this is done! We need to make some changes to your configuration files! Go to CPanel Click on File Manager Click on Public_HTML > Inc > Config.php Right click and download the config file as a backup. Now right click and click on edit and ok. Find $config['database']['table_prefix'] = 'name_'; Name varies. Make sure that name matches the name of your tables. You can find your table names by going to PHP Myadmin, clicking on your database and noting the first word in all of the tables. In my case, it is pirates! So I would have: $config['database']['table_prefix'] = 'pirates_'; Now you can go to your forum and see all of your accounts, posts and forums. Things might look janky. Don't worry, we still have some work to do. Icyboards is a heavily modified version of mybb and some of those settings have come across with the database. We need to alter these. Go to your new forum and log into your Admin CP. Click on Configuration Settings Site details Board URL - your new forum's URL. Do NOT include the trailing slash. So pirates.com not pirates.com/ Homepage URL - Your new forum's URL. Cookie Domain - empty it Click on Save Settings Go to Configuration > Settings > Profile Options Scoll down to Avatar Upload Path and make sure that it's set to ./uploads Go to Configuration > Settings > Server & Optimization Options Scroll down to Uploads Path and change the value to ./uploads Scroll down to Use a CDN? Select No and save settings. Reload your site. Do a hard refresh. It should be loading correctly now! Head back to your CPanel. Go to File Manager Right click on Public_HTML > Inc > settings.php download it to back up the file. Right click and edit. Click Edit. Find $settings['cdnurl'] = "https://static18.icyboards.net/pirates"; Where the end word is your icyboard's forum URL. Can't find it or any cdnurl? Good! Skip the next step. Make sure to empty it $settings['cdnurl'] = ""; Find $settings['avataruploadpath'] = "./uploads/avatars"; Make sure the upload path mirrors the above. Find $settings['cookiedomain'] = ".icyboards stuff here"; Make sure it's changed to your own domain, so for my site it's $settings['cookiedomain'] = ".kit.wootflakes.com"; Click on save. That should do the bulk of the work for you! If you find yourself being redirected back to icyboards at all, have a look at your templates and make sure you haven't put the old URL in there. If you have, just correct it. If you have been with icyboards for a while, you might want to update your javascripts. These are in the headerinclude template. Find something like this: <script type="text/javascript" src="{$mybb->asset_url}/jscripts/jquery.js?ver=1806"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="{$mybb->asset_url}/jscripts/jquery.plugins.min.js?ver=1806"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="{$mybb->asset_url}/jscripts/general.js?ver=1807"></script> Make sure they are: <script type="text/javascript" src="{$mybb->asset_url}/jscripts/jquery.js?ver=1813"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="{$mybb->asset_url}/jscripts/jquery.plugins.min.js?ver=1813"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="{$mybb->asset_url}/jscripts/general.js?ver=1815"></script> These files should have been installed when you installed mybb. Avatars Avatars will probably be missing from the database. To access them you will need to ask Spork to download your UPLOADS folder. This folder will contain anything you have uploaded, like attachments and avatars. When you contact him, make sure to include the URL for the forum you want the uploads folder for. Once you have the folder, upload the contents of the Avatars folder via File Manager by going File Manager > Public_HTML > Uploads > Avatars . Click upload and upload the files in the folder Spork has send to you. Theme Images Make sure to upload your theme's images to your new hosting! You would typically want to upload them to Public HTML > Images > [Create New Folder - Theme Name] Fin! - Hopefully If you are using hosting with us, please reach out if you run into any problems. If you are using a different hosting service, I recommend that you reach out to them. Best of luck with the switch!
  3. I may have jumped in too soon... but I saw that RPG Initiative offers RP hosting... and I signed up. However, I... don't know what to do from there. I am an inexperienced newbie with this sort of thing, but I want to get more experienced with hosting / backend stuff. I just... don't know where to start or where to get information on this kinda thing. I've got my site link and my AutoSSL Certificate, but I don't know what to do with it / where to edit the site/forum. Any direction anyone could provide would be awesome! I signed up for this to practice and well, any practice would be great My site link thing: http://farfromparadise-rp.rpginit.com/
  4. According to a recent announcement by Brandon at zathyrus, it looks like zIFboards (formerly Invisionfree) has been acquired by Tapatalk. In light of this users of InvisionFree will be given 2 options: 1- "Upgrade" to Zetaboards 2- "Upgrade" to Tapatalk's new forum system (seems likely based off phpbb) This, in short, means InvisionFree is getting killed off. If you have an IF board now, you might want to either get a copy of the database while you can to convert over to JFH (or another software) or at least start backing up your essential stuff for the inevitable transfer or loss of the data.
  5. I'm making this thread in response to @Morrigan's discussion on Imgur and their recent crackdown on hot linking. Imgur has blocked Jcink from using their service recently (source). While I only do a browse or word search when looking through TOS, Imgur's terms of service is not for image hosting. Wait, or is it? Whatever. It doesn't matter. The bottom line is: You can't use Imgur if you want to link to your images. Basically, Imgur is for viewing the most viral images on the internet, not hosting your graphics. You can view their TOS here. It's not too long. But just in case you're a professional potato (like me), I'll quote a major point in their TOS: So there you have it. Anyway, I'm sure a lot of you, like me, are bummed. Because honestly, their short links is what sold me. I spent a lot of money on upgrading my account to have access to unlimited uploads. And even though they said that they have removed the limits and stopped the paid, upgraded account service, my account is still being restricted based on their old restrictions. Ugh. So for me, that's still frustrating but I'm not the type to cry over split milk. However I'm sure that some of you might be looking for a new place to host your images. So what are your options? First, and foremost, if you're looking for a place to upload your layout images, then you should be looking at your forum host first. A lot of forum hosts, including Jcink, offer to host your images for your community. In some cases, it's free. In other cases, you'll have to pay to have more storage, but generally they give you enough space to upload what you need for your forum. I highly recommending uploading all your images for your layout with your forum host. Not only will your community load faster (because it's not calling and retrieving information from a third party), but it'll help with the load times on your forum. Load times are important. And it becomes a make or break factor with some members that have a slower/non-priority connection speed. Other image hosting sites can be found by going to google and using your magic little fingers. I found several websites that I will kind of link to below, but as I'm a professional potato, I only skim TOS and search these policies for keywords. Yeah, I know, you can criticize me all you want, but if the service leaves me scratching my head by either hunting down what their site is about, or if they market it to true image hosting (when it may not be the case), then that's on them. I'll still link to the TOS's for you to do the homework, because I'm only liable for me and mine. Here's a few image hosting options I found: Tinypic -- "TinyPic® is a photo and video sharing service that lets you easily upload, link, and share your images and videos on MySpace®, eBay®, Orkut Scrapbooks, blogs, and message boards." -- [ TOS ] I browsed through it and didn't see any kind of restrictions, other than the content you "post" has to adhere to international laws. It's owned by PhotoBucket now. Photobucket -- "Photobucket offers photo and video storage, story creation products and sharing services (collectively referred to as "Photobucket Services") that are offered via the Site, other social media, mobile services and mobile applications." -- [ TOS ] I didn't see anything related to "forum/message boards" so this could be an open field. I highly recommend scanning this TOS. It's not too long, but there are vague points. Also, if you're using this for image hosting layouts, I suggest having your folders on private lock down, otherwise other users can freely redistribute whatever they find. Photobucket also sells prints, so this could be an issue if you don't private/lock your folders. Imageshack -- "Sharing is easy and you have full control of privacy. You can share a single image or even a whole album. Use us for business. We will host your images for your site of forum. Upload quickly and get any link type you need. Discover new inspirations with our follow feature. Follow other photographers, friends and even your family." -- [ TOS ] The first line in this TOS is "ImageShack is here to serve all of your image hosting needs..." Imagevenue -- "Free Image Hosting for bloggers, message board users, and eBay sellers." -- [ TOS ] Short and to the point. Postimage -- "Postimage.org was founded in 2004 to provide forums with an easy way to upload images for free. Postimage is a very simple, fast, reliable free image host. It's perfect for linking to auctions, message boards, blogs, and other websites. " -- [ TOS ] Short and to the point. You can discuss other options as well, because I'm sure it's well worth it if they are true image hosting sites for general purposes. If you want to post your art/professional photography, there are other options out there. Stick to "image hosting" sites that are basically art portfolios, like deviantArt and Weasyl. If you're looking for a place to host your images for your layouts, then I suggest looking into your forum host first. Other than that, Imgur was a lesson learned, yeah? I also suggest taking a look at this list of photo-sharing websites that I found on the infamous Wikipedia. If you scroll down, they touch on the kind of features each site has and they compare them. Might be userful if you're looking for something that lets you organize your stuff.
